Derby Folk Festival

Since 2011, FOLK 3D has been working with DerbyLIVE to enhance some of the folk activities provided at the Derby Folk Festival and to help draw in a younger crowd.

We arrange Morris and Sword Dance Teams to come to Derby and take part in a varied programme, dancing throughout the city centre and inside the Assembly Rooms during the festival:

Dolphin Morris

Dance Workshops – Each year, the Dance Teams we invite to take part in the Derby Folk Festival offer dance workshops in their own specific style of dance (Cotswold Morris, Border Morris, Molly Dance etc).

Flashmob Ceilidhs – Musicians and Dancers all welcomed to the Saturday morning Market Square entertainment – great community fun – see below for more information.

Ceilidh 1John Birmingham Cup FOLK 3D introduced a heat of the John Birmingham Cup folk song-writing competition to Derby Folk Festival in 2012.  This is now the first heat in the annual competition (others held at various festivals from Oct – Aug).  For more details on entry see separate page.

Folk in the Foyer FOLK 3D love to encourage young performers and we have run the Folk Club in the Foyer at Derby Folk Festival, involving as many young players, singers and dancers as possible:   Young players and dancers2013 saw Derby Folk Festival FOLK 3D Flyer Flowers for the first time – a really popular activity recycling the previous year’s festival flyers into beautiful pieces of art you can take home:
